Of all the innovations in orthodontics in the past few decades, Invisalign is clearly the most innovative and popular. This teeth-straightening system is a great option for Corvallis and Albany area adults and teens looking for a straighter, more beautiful smile without the hassle of traditional braces.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Crooked teeth can hurt your confidence, but braces can be an unappealing option for many older teens and adults. Without orthodontic correction, however, you have a higher risk for developing serious oral health problems like gum disease later in life. For some patients, Invisalign is the right solution for aesthetically appealing orthodontic correction.
When you’re approved for Invisalign treatment, Dr. Trammell or Dr. Schanilec will begin by making a mold impression of your mouth to create a custom set of aligners just for you. These aligners are clear plastic orthodontic inserts placed over your teeth. Patients who choose Invisalign must commit to improving their smile at home.
Depending on your treatment plan, you’ll receive 15–30 sets of aligners, which you’ll change approximately twice per month. Each new Invisalign tray adjusts your teeth a bit more than the last. The gradual progression from a crooked grin to a straight smile usually takes 9–15 months to complete. Invisalign trays are only removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing, and they must remain in your mouth overnight.
Who Does Invisalign Benefit?
Invisalign is popular amongst adults and teenagers who don’t want to spend months or even years in braces. Whether you’re a student, parent or professional, traditional braces may not make the ideal first impression amongst peers or colleagues. Invisalign is a great way to keep your orthodontic treatment out of the public eye, while still achieving great results. Unfortunately, Invisalign isn’t an option for every patient. These trays work best for mild to moderate corrections and can’t be used to address problems with bite, jaw alignment and other conditions.
Invisalign is also a popular orthodontic alternative for our patients in Albany and Corvallis who don’t have time for regular adjustment appointments at our offices. Braces need to be tightened, repaired and changed regularly, but not everyone has time for frequent office visits. With Invisalign, you can change out your orthodontic aligners at home, though you’ll still want to visit Dr. Trammell and Dr. Schanilec occasionally to ensure your treatment is progressing correctly.
